Battlefield 6: Season 5 Brings Las Vegas, Area 51, and a Dead Space Crossover

Battlefield 6 is entering its next phase: On October 13th, Season 5 begins, taking you right into Nevada. The new trailer showcases helicopters, machine guns, and destroyed casinos along the Las Vegas Strip. Then, at the end, things suddenly get spooky.

What's in Store for Battlefield 6 Season 5?

According to the trailer and reports from IGN and GamePro, the season introduces these new features, among others:

  • three new maps, including Las Vegas Strip and Area 51
  • six new weapons
  • two new vehicles
  • new content for the Battle Royale mode RedSec, including the slightly faster mode Rapid Royale

The Las Vegas map focuses on chaos between casinos and skyscrapers. Exactly what many in the community have been demanding for a long time: massive destruction and plenty of verticality.

Is a Dead Space Crossover Coming to Battlefield 6?

The trailer ends with the Marker, the alien artifact from the horror series Dead Space. Two engineers stare at it. This is a clear hint at a crossover. However, it hasn't been officially confirmed yet. Players on Reddit had previously discovered possible Dead Space skins. According to rumors, they are expected to appear in a Halloween update, likely as a limited-time event.

Notably: The developers at DICE had previously stated that Battlefield 6 should not feature silly, immersion-breaking skins. A Dead Space suit would put that concern to rest. In a horror setting, sci-fi-style suits don't go quite as far as colorful fantasy skins, at least.

Why is this Crossover Tricky for EA?

Dead Space is currently on ice at EA. Series writer Chuck Beaver said in a podcast that a new game would need to sell over ten million copies to be profitable. The 2023 remake apparently didn't achieve that. Then there's the price: EA recently charged $40 for a Dead Space skin in Skate, which was not well received by players. How expensive the suits in Battlefield 6 will be remains to be seen.

From our perspective, the crossover is a clever move: It brings attention to the season without EA having to immediately finance a new Dead Space game. Whether the community sees it the same way largely depends on the price. Read more about the brand in our report on the negotiations for a Battlefield movie.
