Two skins, two memes, and a rather self-critical statement: Battlefield Studios have addressed the cosmetic controversies from Battlefield 6 Season 5 in their official Discord. Since the season launched on October 13, the community has primarily been mocking two items.
What Happened with the Skins?
On the armband of a McNeil skin, the non-existent word “Secuty” appears instead of “Security.” Players immediately suspected generative AI was behind the error. The second point of contention is the “Midnight Mirage” skin, whose soldier wears no less than five pistol holsters on their body – clips of this quickly made the rounds.
How Are the Developers Responding?
The response varies:
- The Typo: It will be corrected; a fix has been announced.
- The Five Pistols: According to the studio, this is a deliberate creative concept, an allusion to exaggerated action-movie clichés. Apparently, nothing will be changed here.
- Quality Control: Such items do not meet their own standards, and they are reviewing internal processes and workflows to catch errors earlier in the future.
It remains unclear how the error even made it into the shop. EA and the studio do not address the community’s AI accusations in their statement.
Why Is Battlefield 6's Cosmetics So Heavily Debated?
Skins in Battlefield 6 have been regularly criticized since its launch in October 2025 because many players expect realism and a unified look. Additionally, there was recent frustration regarding progression: Just a few days ago, the studio reversed an XP reduction after the start of Season 5 following complaints. Trust in the season is therefore already bruised – a visible blunder in the paid shop section particularly stands out.
From our perspective, the quick and open reaction is a good sign. Whether the announced process review truly changes anything will only become apparent with the next cosmetic drops. The decision to keep the pistol skin might not satisfy everyone, but it is at least honestly explained.
Season 5 is unfolding in three waves. The first, featuring the Vegas Strip and Area 51, is already live, with further content to follow throughout the season.
